Metro Tasmania

Tasmania’s public passenger transport service provider has been one of our favourite clients for over a decade. We love making it as easy as possible for people to top-up their Greencard or find the next bus home.

In January 2024, we launched a refreshed Metro Tasmania website and Greencard portal aligning these digital channels with Metro’s new brand and style guide.

We also took the opportunity to provide a major uplift to timetable presentation, with new interactive timetables allowing travellers to see bus stop location and trip routes when they are planning their trips.

Revitalising Metro Tasmania's Digital Presence

In January 2024, we launched a comprehensive overhaul of Metro Tasmania’s website and the Greencard portal. This major update was aligned with Metro Tasmania's new branding and style guidelines, ensuring a cohesive visual and functional experience across all platforms. The redesign was not merely cosmetic; it involved a deep integration of new functionalities to enhance the usability and accessibility of the digital services offered.

A key aspect of the website's transformation was the enhancement of the user interface and interaction design. We aimed to create an intuitive and seamless experience for users, whether they were topping up their Greencard, checking bus schedules, or planning a trip. This involved simplifying navigation, streamlining the user journey, and ensuring that critical information was easily accessible. By reducing the number of user steps required to perform common tasks, we significantly improved the efficiency and satisfaction of Metro Tasmania’s diverse user base.

Interactive Timetables and Route Visualisation

One of the standout features of the revamped website is the interactive timetable functionality. We introduced dynamic, map-based timetable visualisations that allow users to not only see the schedules but also interact with the routes visually on the map. This feature is particularly beneficial for new users and tourists, making it incredibly straightforward to plan trips and understand transit routes at a glance. The interactive maps integrate real-time data, ensuring that users have access to the most current and relevant information.

Recognising the diverse needs of Metro Tasmania’s users, including those with disabilities, we placed a strong emphasis on accessibility in the digital redesign. The website was meticulously crafted to meet and exceed WCAG 2.1 AA standards, which include providing text alternatives for non-text content, ensuring sufficient contrast between text and background, and making all functionality available from a keyboard. This commitment to accessibility ensures that the website is usable by people with a wide range of physical and cognitive abilities.
