Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting the final TasICT Tapas & Tech event for 2024 – a night dedicated to diving deep into the Benefits of Modern DevOps! Presented by AWS, Fortinet, and Ionata Digital, this panel discussion brought together speakers who are in the trenches of DevOps and cybersecurity every day to explore how modern approaches are transforming IT across Tasmania.
We couldn’t have been happier with the turn out with industry experts and tech enthusiasts gathering to hear from our panelists: Puneet Talwar from AWS, Chris Hall from Fortinet, and Ben LeFevre from Ionata Digital. Moderated by TasICT’s own CEO, Russell Kelly, the conversation was rich, informative, and, most importantly, relevant to the unique challenges and opportunities that DevOps brings to our island state.
This is the second event we’ve run with AWS and Fortinet in Hobart this year and they wouldn’t have happened without the support of AWS’s amazing public sector team for Victoria and Tasmania Rosa Thompson, Vishwa Gandhi and Julian Direen.
Key Takeaways from the Night
The panel discussion covered everything from deploying data in containers to securing DevOps pipelines against today’s evolving cybersecurity threats. Puneet kicked off the evening by demystifying DevOps and sharing how AWS is helping organizations drive operational excellence with automation and cloud infrastructure. Ben followed up with insights on how Ionata Digital achieved a remarkable 100% uptime for the TasALERT platform through modern deployment strategies. And Chris, representing Fortinet, shared crucial advice on reducing cybersecurity burnout by automating compliance and mitigating alert fatigue.
The event highlighted how a combination of people, processes, and technology can create a sustainable DevOps environment, and each panelist shared practical strategies to accelerate cloud adoption safely and efficiently. From infrastructure automation to DevSecOps, there was something for everyone to take away and implement in their own organizations.
Celebrating Community & Innovation
Beyond the technical insights, the event was a testament to the strong, supportive community that TasICT has fostered. It was inspiring to see so many faces – new and familiar – exchanging ideas, discussing challenges, and building connections that will undoubtedly continue to shape Tasmania’s tech landscape.
After the discussion, attendees enjoyed tapas and drinks. This event wasn’t just about DevOps; it was a celebration of how far Tasmania’s tech community has come and where it’s headed.
Looking Forward
As we wrapped up the last Tapas & Tech event of the year, we’re already looking forward to the next. Thank you to everyone who attended, our panelists who shared their expertise, and TasICT for bringing us all together. Here’s to more nights filled with learning, laughter, and a love for technology!
Stay tuned for more events, insights, and updates. In the mean time if you want to talk about how you we can ensure your websites and applications have TasALERT levels of uptime and availability reach out and say hello.
