Talking Wildlife, AI, and Big Ideas at Tas Tech Fest

It was fantastic to be part of the very first TasICT Tas Tech Fest – the energy across the event was brilliant.

Tas Tech Fest brought together an impressive cross-section of the tech community from startups and researchers to major industry players. All in one place to share ideas, breakthroughs, and big ambitions for the future.

We were proud to take part and share a story that’s close to our hearts: how we’re working with the Tasmanian Land Conservancy to apply AI in wildlife conservation, helping monitor native species across the state using camera trap footage and smart software. It’s a local project with global relevance, and it was great to see so much interest in its potential.

A huge thank you to Karthik Murugan for travelling from Singapore to join us on stage with his insights on generating business value with AI added incredible depth to the session. We’re also grateful to Velroy D’costa and Alexa Donovan for representing AWS and helping support the talk.

Another highlight of the day was hearing from Cameron Adams and Lisa Kate Miller about their journey with Canva and Wedgetail VC. Their keynote was full of heart, and their work on AI-driven conservation solutions resonated deeply with our own.

A big congratulations to Russell Kelly, the TasICT team, and board for delivering such a well-run event. Tas Tech Fest is a brilliant addition to the local calendar, and we’re already looking forward to seeing what’s next.

It was also fantastic to see the continued support from the Tasmanian Government, especially Minister Madeleine Ogilvie MP and CIO Justin Thurley. Partnerships like these play a vital role in keeping our industry moving forward and unlocking more opportunities for local innovation.
