Building an Accessible Digital Home for Disability Resources

JFA Purple Orange is a leading voice in disability advocacy, helping people with disability. Their work spans research, storytelling, community projects, and practical resources — but their website wasn’t keeping pace with their impact. More importantly, it needed to reflect the lived experience of the people it exists for.

So we set out to build a digital platform that is welcoming, intuitive, and accessibly designed with the community, not just for them.

Designing for clarity, confidence, and independence

With co-design insights guiding our approach, we restructured the site around simplicity and ease of navigation. Clear headings, predictable layouts, and streamlined pathways help users browse without friction.

We paid particular attention to cognitive accessibility — reducing noise, avoiding jargon, and creating layouts that support focus and comprehension.

Every element aims to support confidence: to help people find what they need quickly, understand it clearly, and act independently.

Accessibility engineered into every layer

Technical accessibility wasn’t an afterthought; it was a foundation. We built the site with semantic HTML, consistent landmarks, clear form structure, and robust keyboard support. Screen reader users can move through content effortlessly, thanks to predictable hierarchy and careful aria usage.

A collaborative build with meaningful outcomes

Coherent, respectful, and accessible across devices and assistive technologies for the JFA Purple Orange team and their clients, the site is a future-ready platform that supports their mission to champion inclusion, amplify lived experience, and share resources that genuinely help.

This project highlights what’s possible when accessibility, co-design, and thoughtful development come together. It’s a site that feels intuitive for everyone because it was shaped by the people who use it.

We’re proud to have worked alongside the JFA Purple Orange co-design team — and to help create a platform that supports independence, community, and lasting impact.
