Jobs.tas.gov.au
The Tasmanian Government is the largest employer in Tasmania, advertising over 200 vacancies a month.
Originally released in May 2000, Jobs.tas.gov.au has grown into a key whole of government site providing an extremely useful service to people seeking employment within the Tasmanian State Service.
The Office of the State Service Commissioner (OSSC) is responsible for all vacancy advertising within the Tasmanian State Service. After a year of operation, Justin Giles-Clark and Ian Wilcox from the OSSC saw the opportunity to further develop and extend the already highly successful site.
Defining the project
Ionata Web Solutions director Martin Anderson worked with the OSSC to identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness of the Jobs.tas.gov.au site. Martin cites the integration between the Jobs.tas.gov.au site and print media as a key improvement.
"With the redeveloped Jobs.tas.gov.au site we managed to develop a process that integrated publishing vacancies on the Jobs.tas.gov.au site with advertising vacancies in newspapers, periodicals and the Tasmanian Government Gazette."
"Now you can add a vacancy to the Jobs.tas.gov.au site and see it in the weekend paper without any additional effort."
Continuous Improvement
In addition to providing new features the redeveloped Jobs.tas.gov.au site has made it easier to enter vacancy notices, as Martin explains.
"One of the key things we identified was the need to for vacancy notice formats to be flexible enough to cover the range of vacancy notices created by different agencies while supporting OSSC's statutory requirements. This flexibility was build into the redeveloped site from the beginning and the site now supports notices from individual positions to 20 teachers in the one notice."
Feedback from OSSC
It has been a pleasure to work with Ionata Web Solutions in achieving the innovative and positive outcomes through the redevelopment of the jobs.tas.gov.au website. Their professional approach and "can do" attitude made a challenging and complex task that much easier for the project team involved. Martin has the ability to hear and interpret the client's requirements and develop a workable user-friendly product and usually then enhance the solution even further, "value-add" is Martin's middle name!
From an operational perspective the enhancements to the jobs.tas.gov.au website have provided substantial improvements to the integrated advertising process in all State Service Agencies and additional features that will assist those people seeking employment in the Tasmanian State Service.
